NAWEWE Sports Jamboree 2024 Kicks Off Today in Bafoussam
Bafoussam, July 6th, 2024 – Today marks the opening ceremony of the highly anticipated 3rd
edition of the NAWEWE Sports Jamboree at Lycee classique de Bafoussam. This event, organized
by Local Youth Corner Cameroon in collaboration with her partners, seeks to use sports as a tool
to promote social cohesion and well-being between displaced Persons and their host communities.
This meticulously, planned opening ceremony begins at 7 AM. spectators and athletes will witness
welcome addresses from distinguished personalities who will be present such as the City Mayor,
Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon, the Governor of the West Region, a keynote speech
by the SG of Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education.

Activities for the day include a solidarity match, an opening football match, a solidarity meal, and various cultural performances. Under the distinguished patronage of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, the NAWEWE Sports Jamboree is a youth-led initiative aimed at fostering dialogue and building bridges between displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. It emphasizes the transformativepower of sports in promoting healthy living, moral values, civic engagement, and entrepreneurial skills among young people aged 15-35. As young people, we are today happy to launch the 3rd Edition NAWEWE Sports Jamboree 2024, which embodies our commitment to using sports as a tool for social change and community development,” said Mr Achaleke Christian, Executive Director of Local Youth Corner Cameroon. “Through this event, we aim to create a platform where young people within Displaced Communities and their Host communities, can come together, learn from each other, and build lasting connections which fosters peace and sustainable development and our partners have all
been very instrumental in seeing this through.

Beyond athletic competitions in football, handball, basketball, and dance, the Jamboree offers free health consultations, workshops on peace education, civic engagement, and social issues, and distributions of essential items to IDPs and community members. These activities are designed to promote community well-being and equip participants with valuable life skills.
